Your first visit to the Low Vision and Visual Rehabilitation Service will include a comprehensive examination designed to measure your remaining vision and how well you function with daily living. We will begin with a detailed history of your functional vision, as well as an evaluation of how well you can see ordinary objects —such as street signs, newspaper print, and stove dials. We'll also assess your close up/distance vision and contrast sensitivity.
During the examination, one or more of the following diagnostic procedures may be completed:
- Refraction
- Visual field test
- Evaluation of optical magnification devices to assist with reading, driving, and daily activities.
Low vision examinations are often more time consuming than standard eye examinations. Please allow at least one and one-half hours for this examination and bring any magnifiers or glasses you currently use.
